Pure Softness

I have been trying to find the perfect towels and bathmat to match our shower curtain for almost a month now.   Yesterday I ventured into the bay and found the perfects ones!  To make it even better, they were 60% off!!  The bath mat is so soft I could stand on it wiggling my toes for hours.  The color is called "Stream" even though it is a much nicer color than any stream I have ever looked at.

Winter might be over.

On April 5th there was a snowstorm that caused branches to break off of trees all through our neighborhood.  There was a branch stuck on a telephone wire in our backyard.  We don't have a land line activated so we didn't really care.  However it probably isn't safe to have a branch dangling from a line in the backyard.

We asked Telus to fix it (since they are responsible for maintaining the telephone infrastructure) and they claimed that they did last week... even though the branch was still on the wire.  So Craig complained and today when we came home the branch was on the ground!

We are happy to not have to worry about being electrocuted in the backyard any more.

Cleaning up the flower beds.

This morning I decided to try and tidy up the flower beds a little bit.  Essentially they are just filled with weeds but there were a few legitimate plants.  I decided to try and move the real plants into a planter so that I could haphazardly spray Round-Up to kill all the weeds.

It is apparently more difficult than I thought to move plants around.  Eventually I gave up and just sprayed everything with Round-Up.  This photo was taken while I was still optimistic that my plan would work.

I am looking forward to planting flowers in the next few weeks!

Spring chores...

Last night Craig decided to make use of the nice weather and break out our new rake.
I think Craig is enjoying yard work... so far.

Easter Dinner

Today we hosted our first holiday in our new home!  We made ham and scalloped potatoes for Easter.  Almost my whole family was able to attend.  This was the first time I have cooked a meal for that many people, and it worked out quite well.  I had to wake up at 7AM to put the ham in the slow cooker and it turned out quite well ... but I probably could have put it in at 9AM.  I also tried out a new recipe for a broccoli casserole that is definitely a keeper.  All in all it was a great family meal.  Unfortunately my brother and his family couldn't make it because they just had a new baby, but we will be going to visit them on Monday.

The menu included: Pasta salad (made by sister), spinach salad, broccoli casserole, roasted brussel sprouts, scalloped potatoes, and ham.  For dessert we had saskatoon pie and trifle (made by my mom), toffee saltines (aka.  crack candy), and chocolate mints.  Definitely a delicious meal ... and Craig and I won't have to cook for many days to come!

House Warming Party

Our home was officially unveiled to all of our friends on the weekend.  Unfortunately I was too busy having fun to take any photos.  I didn't remember until the end of the evening that this is all I could get...  I believe the party was a success. At least it appears like Llisa likes the house...

Our friends were also very generous and we received several gifts including many bottles of wine, a garden hose, plates, a cute salt and pepper shaker set, and one ceramic duck wearing a rain coat for our future garden.
