Shiny New Fan!

Previously the fan above our stove was white and did not match our appliances.
We needed to put one in the basement so I had the great idea to put our current one in the basement and then buy a new one for us!  I think it worked out splendidly.

Now we just need a new microwave and all the appliances will match.

Zucchini are taking over!

The garden is looking great these days!
The zucchini plants are huge!  They are in the far garden box on the right side.  There is only one row of them!

There are lots of blossoms developing on the squash plants - looks like we will be getting tonnes of squash!

Edited to add

"This saw is not suited to any task"

Our stove for the basement didn't actually fit into the space between the counters.  Craig has been wondering for a while how to fix this problem and he decided that moving the cabinet over is the easiest solution.  So Craig took the cabinet off the wall and went to move it over 1 inc only to discover that the baseboard was in the way!!  The baseboard proved to be impossible to get off the wall without wrecking it so Craig figured it would be easiest to just cut the cabinet so that the baseboard would fit snugly up against it.  This plan worked surprisingly well.  Although I can't help but notice that he hasn't screwed the cabinet back into the wall, so the job isn't done quite yet.

Craig measured twice and cut once.

I told Craig that I didn't think this type of saw was suited to this particular task. He replied that the saw isn't suited to any task.
We just found it here when we moved in, so it really isn't very good.

The "finished" job:
Looks pretty good.

We want to have everything in the basement ready to go by this weekend so that we can put up ads and hopefully rent it out for September.

So much water!

One benefit of raised beds is that the garden doesn't flood!
Even though the garden is essentially floating in a sea of rain water.

I forgot to close the window in the sewing room and the wind was blowing perfectly to have so much water end up in there!  I soaked three large towels cleaning it up!  I didn't get a photo because I panicked when I saw it and didn't think to grab my phone. Luckily my fabric was in a closed plastic tote so it was fine. However one of my patterns was completely soaked... hopefully when it dries it will be okay.  Although I already cut the pieces for that item so I don't necessarily need the pattern, but I might want to use it again in the future.

Attack of the killer wasps.

Just as we were locking the door to go on vacation we noticed a wasp fly into a small crack near our frontdoor.  We figured we would deal with it when we got home. Of course we completely forgot about it and yesterday when I came in the front door I didn't notice one land on my leg.  When I sat down it got very mad and stung me!  Craig immediately went to destroy the nest with some foam that kills them.  It doesn't seem very active today and there are several dead wasps on the front steps.  I think we will have to seal off that crack so new wasps don't make it their home.

This is Craig attacking the wasps while I watch from the safety of inside.

Surveying the Damages

We have been gone for 10 days and it was our first time leaving the house alone for so long.  Craig had a friend water the garden so we thought we were all set... then we hear that there was a heat wave, then tremendous amounts of rain, then hail, then more rain.  We were very anxious to see what had happened while we were away!

There is a lot of water in our back yard!  It is about 3 inches deep in most places.  Our entire back alley is also flooded.  Our make shift fire place is almost completely full of water!

The garden boxes are completely full of water so Craig had to be an acrobat so that he could tend to some corn plants that were knocked over by the hail without soaking his shoes.  The garden looks great.  The peas have flowers and the zucchini plants are really big.

The grass really needs to be mowed but I don't know if that will be possible since the ground is so wet!

Some purple flowers bloomed that we didn't even know existed.

The crack in the basement leaked a little bit.  It doesn't look that bad... but definitely not good.  So we will have to get that resealed.  :(

And just for good measure... this happened when I was wearing bug spray!

Garden Update

The garden is looking pretty good!  The corn and squash especially are growing very well.  The herbs that Craig planted have hardly sprouted though.  No sage for us!!
