Getting ready for Christmas!

I was very excited to decorate our first Christmas tree in the new house!  We bought a pre-lit tree from Walmart and it was on sale so it was only $88! Seemed like a pretty good deal to me.  I also bought lots of different colored balls to decorate the tree with.  I spent about 30 minutes in Walmart comparing the different colors and sizes and textures of decorative balls before I made my decision.  Luckily Craig was on the phone with his sister at the time so he didn't realize how much time was spent making this decision (I doubt he would have been so patient it he wasn't distracted).  I think it came out looking pretty good.

As a topper for the tree I am using a penguin of mine that was given to me by my Aunt Kim a few years ago.  It is actually a toilet paper roll cover.  I think it looks pretty cute on the top of the tree.  I think it looks like he is hugging the branch... but Craig thinks he looks like he has been impaled by the tree.

I have also purchased some lights to decorate the outside of the house but Craig needs to go and buy a ladder so that we can hang them up.  The weather is supposed to be a little bit warmer next week so hopefully we can hang them up then!

As a bonus, once we have the ladder we will be able to investigate the mystery of the leaking bedroom window from earlier this year that we have ignored.  The wind doesn't usually come from that direction when it is raining so it only leaked that one time!  Although my dad asks about that leak every time he sees me... so hopefully we will have it fixed before the rain comes from that direction again.

Basement Pipe Update!

When we first noticed the cracked pipe in the basement Craig went out to buy some magic putty/sealant/something or other as a temporary fix until we could have the pipe replaced.  It is a very good thing he did this because the pipe still hasn't been fixed!!!

Initially we tried contacting plumbers that listed themselves as having "24 hour emergency" response times.  We didn't know how serious our problem was and wanted someone to look at it right away... however no one ever called back from several companies.

Then one of Craig's co-workers recommended a plumber saying he was really good.  So Craig phoned this guy and he was really busy so he made an appointment for this guy to come by two weeks to survey the job so that he could give an estimate of his time and come back this Friday to actually do the work.  So hopefully by the end of this week it will actually be fixed.

I am so glad Craig was able to put a temporary fix on the pipe.  I can't imagine having to wait this long if it was a real emergency!

We need a plumber...

Craig just noticed there is a crack in our main waste water pipe and it is leaking water onto the basement floor.  Ick.  Hopefully we will be able to get someone to come and look at it ASAP!
